Maahra Hill and Travina Springer talk season one of NBC’s The Irrational

Have you ever wondered what makes a TV show so addictive you just can’t watch it? I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the cast members Maahra Hill and Travina Springer of NBC’s new popular series The Irrational to discuss why viewers are so hooked onto it. There is a reason why it was renewed for a second season by the network.

The conversation revealed some fascinating insights into the show and the characters that have captivated audiences worldwide.

“Jesse is beloved. I can’t say enough about that. Viewers and audiences, crews, and cast love him,” stated Springer.

The first thing that struck me was the unanimous agreement among the cast members about the magnetic presence of one particular character, Jessie. Described as easy to watch, charismatic, and beloved, Jessie seems to be the heart of the show, drawing viewers in with his charm and relatability. But it’s not just Jessie’s appeal that keeps audiences coming back for more.

According to the cast, the show’s allure also lies in its exploration of human behavior and psychology. Viewers are drawn to the relatable and accessible nature of the series, as it delves into the complexities of human emotions and actions. Additionally, the “who done it” aspect adds an interactive quality, allowing viewers to play armchair detectives while watching the drama unfold.

“There’s this real human aspect about the series… and I think there’s just this curiosity,” stated Hill.

As the conversation delved into their respective characters, it became evident that the depth and complexity of their relationships are key elements that resonate with the audiences making them invest in them even further.. Kyle is this sounding board with an intricate relationship with her brother, Alex. Travina said, “ I think he does listen to me. He hears the things I’m saying. There might be resistance to it because he thinks he’s smarter than me and he’s my older brother.” She further says that this sibling dynamic is something “sacred” and allows for that person to say things to you like no one else can.

Similarly, the character Marisa’s internal conflict between following protocol and navigating her personal life added another layer of depth to the series. “I think that our showrunner Erica, and all the writers did a great job with her this season of introducing her and unpeeling the layers more and more as you go,” stated Hill. Maahra shared her thoughts on Marisa’s relationship with ex husband Alex. She doesn’t see it as conflicting but more so a relationship where Marisa actually learns more from Alex than when they were married.

The discussion ended with the women sharing a word or phrase to describe the series. The varied responses, ranging from “intrigue” to “predictably rational,” highlighted the multifaceted nature of the show. They couldn’t share any spoilers for season two but I’m more than ever eager to see what else we will all learn from Alex and his team.
