From Healing to Filmmaking: Peter and Roxanne Heibloem’s Journey with Ayahuasca and Consciousness
Peter and Roxanne Heibloem, consciousness coaches and filmmakers, transitioned from personal healing to cinematic storytelling through their transformative experiences with ayahuasca. Their documentary, Ayahuasca: Source for the Soul, reflects their profound journey and aims to share the healing power of this sacred plant medicine with a global audience. Their shift from coaching to filmmaking was marked by both challenges and growth, but their deep connection to the subject matter has brought authenticity and impact to their work. As their film garners acclaim, including a finalist spot at Cannes, Peter and Roxanne remain dedicated to expanding conversations around consciousness and healing, inspired to continue exploring and sharing transformative modalities with the world. I had the fantastic opportunity to have a Q&A session with them regarding their experiences as conscious coaches and healers, journey as filmmakers, and their recent documentary Ayahuasca: Source for the Soul.
Cox: How did your journey as consciousness coaches and healers lead you to venture into documentary filmmaking?
Peter and Roxanne: As we developed our consciousness and elevated our vibration, we started to tap into creation energy. We all have access to this energy and it is naturally there if we allow it to be seen. This is what activated and we felt the urge to create movies and documentaries on a larger scale to help people learn, grow and find their true authentic self.
Cox: Your documentary “Ayahuasca: Source for the Soul” has been well-received. What inspired you to focus on ayahuasca as a healing modality?
Peter and Roxanne: The inspiration came from when we had our awakening in 2019. We went to Costa Rica and sat with the sacred plant medicine – Mother Ayahuasca. This changed our life. It helped us merge back with our soul energy, healed our broken hearts and helped us see behind many illusions of society. So this was the basis, because it helped us so much in our own healing life, we felt called to share the power of this medicine to the world!
Cox: Can you share some personal experiences that significantly influenced your approach to both coaching and filmmaking?
Peter and Roxanne: Being kind and compassionate for others. Not rushing people in a healing session. Allowing others to feel safe to share their intimate emotions and feelings and to feel supported and heard. Knowing that that is the key to raising our own vibration, as we had each other, we knew that this was very unique and special, as a lot of people don’t have this access or support from their spouse. So that’s what helped us with our “WHY” in coaching and filmmaking.
Cox: How do you balance the dual responsibilities of being successful coaches and filmmakers?
Peter and Roxanne: We have the balance of both as they are very similar energy flows. What we teach and coach people through is the same processes in most cases of our filmmaking. It’s all in and around helping a soul awakening to their true authentic self, raising their vibration and elevating their consciousness. We love helping and being of service to help make the world a better place.
Cox: What was the most challenging aspect of transitioning from coaching to filmmaking for you?
Peter and Roxanne: We had fun together on set. We loved this new experience as we had never taken up acting or speaking classes. We did however have our YouTube channel – Peter and Roxy, and learned to speak together here, which took the pressure off when the cameras were rolling.
Cox: In your experience, how has the film medium enhanced your ability to convey messages about consciousness and healing?
Peter and Roxanne: We are able to connect in a unique and natural way on film. This is helping to plant consciousness seeds and codes to all viewers around the world. We found that being normal is actually our biggest gift! No facades or fake appearances. We just arrive on set and on these films as our true self and that seems to be liked by the general audiences 🙂
Cox: Can you discuss any memorable moments or breakthroughs you’ve witnessed in individuals who have undergone ayahuasca ceremonies?
Peter and Roxanne: Yes! Many many miracles using the plant medicine Ayahuasca. Many people experience soul merges, or healings of their own heart that was broken. They learn to deeply forgive those that have hurt them. Many many magical moments. 1 night on the medicine is said to be 10 years of healing. Very profound and deep healing qualities that the medicine brings!
Cox: What future topics or themes are you planning to explore in your upcoming documentaries?
Peter and Roxanne: We will continue to help expand the consciousness of our learnings and experiences to help motivate and inspire others to dare to try these different healing modalities.
Questions Regarding The Movie
Cox: Ayahuasca: Source for the Soul” delves into the use of an ancient plant medicine. What inspired you to make a documentary on this particular topic?
Peter and Roxanne: This topic is very dear to our hearts and will be one help in the highest regard for our lifetime. This medicine is so powerful and has so many healing capabilities, we had to share it with the world. With the approval of the spirit “Mother” we were called to step up and share.
Cox: Can you share more about the journey and process of creating “Ayahuasca: Source for the Soul”? What were some of the challenges you faced?
Peter and Roxanne: We live in Australia and unfortunately this is not legal here. So we traveled over to Costa Rica via America. The journey in itself is a big one, and then stepping into 4 nights in a row of the healing journey is very shifting. The closer you fly to the lands of the Amazon the louder the energy of the medicine becomes in your awareness. It’s a powerful energy, and the months leading into a journey with Ayahuasca, almost as you sign up and say yes to going, the medicine starts working with you. Taking layers and layers off emotionally to prepare you.
Cox: The documentary was a finalist at Cannes this year. What do you think resonated most with the audience and judges?
Peter and Roxanne: I believe the medicine will talk to everyone it appears in front of. Kind of a magic energy that connects to all people, as we all have a soul. Mother Ayahuasca is truth. She is natural and she is showing us home to our hearts. I believe the success of this film and other documentaries created around plant medicine will go far, this is a force that is not like anything else on this planet. So I see the judges would have felt this calling, as it is truth and we stepped up to show our vulnerable selves to help others open up in future times. We know everyone all around the world has trauma… not feeling loved, maybe they were overlooked as a child, or not good enough to peers… these emotions are all experiences to expand our consciousness this lifetime and at one point in our soul’s journey we have to face this pain to correct this energy. This is the power of the medicine to help us return home to our balanced happy selves.
Cox: How do you hope “Ayahuasca: Source for the Soul” will impact viewers and contribute to the conversation around plant medicine?
Peter and Roxanne: We hope to share the medicine from the jungle of the Amazon to the heights of the west! We already have shared our movie in Times Square in NYC. We visited NY and saw our movie on the big screen and felt so proud of this accomplishment. This is a way to help plant the seeds and share the healing qualities to the world. Many people are looking for healing, however the narrative has not allowed us to see the truth until this time. The great awakening is upon us and we hope our movie will reach many millions of viewers in time, so they too can be activated.
Cox: Both of you have had life-changing experiences with ayahuasca. How did these personal experiences shape the film’s narrative?
Peter and Roxanne: We have learned to not plan! Lol it’s crazy we know! We have an outline for our movies, however the medicine was in charge of this one… we allowed our hearts to lead alongside mother Ayahuasca. She was the boss! She helped allow the story to unravel as we healed and grew through the process. Nothing was planned… it all unfolded. So we made sure our egos and minds got out of the way and let mother Ayahuasca, the universal energy lead the way naturally… and here we are! Most of us want to control everything, we are stuck in our heads because we don’t “Trust”. So this process of letting go and surrendering to more, allows everything to work out perfectly.
Cox: What are some misconceptions about ayahuasca that you aim to clarify through your documentary?
Peter and Roxanne: We definitely believe all people should do the medicine 2 – 3 nights in a row to help the person crack open. 1 night is not enough. Also finding a shaman and visiting sacred places where the medicine is rooted is the best way. To fully immerse yourself in the energy of the healing of these plants is the key to a better experience.
Cox: You mentioned that many celebrities have spoken about their experiences with ayahuasca. How do you think the increasing celebrity interest affects public perception?
Peter and Roxanne: We think it is amazing that more influences are talking about this sacred medicine. It is powerful to step up and show vulnerability. Many people are stuck in their ego pretending to have it all together, it’s time for the divine feminine to stand and show love, compassion and forgiveness. The world will be a better place when more people fall into this energy flow.
Cox: Your film also aims to educate viewers about ayahuasca. What are some key takeaways or educational points you hope the audience will come away with?
Peter and Roxanne: We love Rythmia Life Advancements’ way of teaching intentions at their retreat in Costa Rica. We love Rythmia, it is heaven on earth. This retreat offers the benefits of the west’s luxuries, while bringing in true and authentic shamans from the Amazon. The intentions taught at Rythmia and in our film are to help have a more powerful journey when on the medicine. So we wanted to give as many tips as we could for viewers to learn how to get the most out of their experience with the medicine!
