Prime Video Reveals First Look at The Rig Season 2, Bringing New Arctic Thrills and Mysteries
Prime Video has unveiled a first look at the highly anticipated second season of The Rig, set to premiere in January 2025. The new season of the supernatural thriller moves from the North Sea to a haunting new setting in the Arctic Circle, where chilling new threats and mysteries await. Returning cast members include Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), Rochenda Sandall (Criminal: UK), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), and Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), with new additions Alice Krige (Star Trek), Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen’s Gambit), Ross Anderson (The Last Kingdom), Phil McKee (Deadwater Fell), and Johannes Roaldsen Fürst (Hvite gutter).
Season 2 picks up after the shocking events that left the Kinloch Bravo crew stranded, as they are transported to an isolated offshore research base, “The Stac,” hidden in the Arctic’s forbidding glacial terrain. Here, the surviving crew faces the fallout from the catastrophic tsunami and confronts new challenges involving corporate agendas, conspiracy theories, and terrifying forces from the ocean’s depths. As the mysteries of The Rig deepen, the series explores global issues around the frontiers of ocean technology, environmental impact, and the unknown threats lurking in the deep sea.
Returning showrunner David Macpherson expands the supernatural thriller’s scope with a story that blends epic suspense with a visual dive into the earth’s largely unexplored deep ocean. In Season 2, Macpherson continues to weave together past, present, and future challenges facing humanity. “The deep ocean contains over 95% of the life-supporting space on our planet, and we still explore it with candlelight. We have no idea how much more there is to see,” said Macpherson, hinting at the eerie unknowns to come.
The Rig is produced by Wild Mercury Productions, part of Banijay UK, with episodes directed by John Strickland (Bodyguard) and Alex Holmes (The Letter for the King). Alongside Macpherson, executive producers include Derek Wax and John Strickland, with Suzanne Reid as series producer and Matt Brown as co-producer.
Building on the success of Season 1, which captivated audiences in the UK and internationally, Season 2 of The Rig promises more gripping thrills, cinematic landscapes, and a dive into the mysterious world of the Arctic as the crew’s survival hangs by a thread. Set your reminders for January 2025, as The Rig returns to Prime Video, ready to take fans on another epic journey into the unknown.
