OWN Network Unwraps the Holiday Spirit with New Christmas Films
This December, the OWN Network is bringing joy and warmth to your holiday season with its sixth annual ‘OWN for the Holidays’ programming event. Featuring three heartwarming movies, this lineup promises to enchant audiences every Saturday at 9 PM. Mark your calendars for these premieres:
- December 7: A Season to Remember, starring Michele Weaver and Nathan Owens.
- December 14: Mistletoe & Matrimony, featuring Ashlei Chestnut and Ethienne Maurice.
- December 21: 24-Karat Christmas, with Samantha Marie Ware and Curtis Hamilton.
These films capture the magic of the holiday season, offering stories filled with love, family, and self-discovery. I had the pleasure of speaking with Michele Weaver and Nathan Owens, the stars of A Season to Remember, about their experiences on set and the themes that make this film special.
A Season to Remember: A Tale of Love, Ambition, and Courage
In A Season to Remember, Michele Weaver portrays Symone Gibson, a determined sports reporter navigating the challenges of a male-dominated industry. Alongside her is Nathan Owens as Iggy Love, a talented freelance sports photographer who inspires Symone to embrace her boldness and pursue her passions.
With only a week before Christmas, Symone must find a compelling story that could catapult her career to new heights. Guided by Iggy’s insights, she embarks on a journey that not only helps her discover a newsworthy narrative but also leads her to romance, courage, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Chemistry That Shines On-Screen
Michele and Nathan’s connection as co-stars adds depth and authenticity to their performances. Reflecting on their collaboration, Michele shared, “Working with Nathan was a pleasure. We started as friends, and that foundation made the process enjoyable. We were both committed to giving our best while fostering a sense of family with the cast and crew.”
Nathan echoed these sentiments, saying, “Michele and I connected through our sense of humor. We joked a lot on set, but when it was time to work, we focused. The entire cast and crew approached the project as a team, which made the experience special.”
Their camaraderie is evident in the film, enhancing the emotional connection between their characters, Symone and Iggy.
Personal Connections to the Characters
Nathan found striking similarities between himself and his character, Iggy. “I’ve traveled a lot, like Iggy, and I also have a deep appreciation for family. Growing up with an older sister taught me important lessons about working with women, which I drew on to bring Iggy’s dynamic with Symone to life.”
Michele also resonated deeply with her character, particularly as a woman of color striving to assert herself in her field. She shared, “One line in the script stood out to me: ‘I don’t believe closed mouths should be fed.’ It’s a reminder to advocate for ourselves, to speak up, and to claim what we deserve. That’s a journey I relate to personally, and it felt empowering to bring that to Symone’s character.”
Behind the Scenes: A Festive Atmosphere
The holiday spirit wasn’t limited to the script—it came to life on set as well. Michele fondly recalled, “During the first week of filming, we were confined to a cozy house with Christmas lights, cookies, and eggnog everywhere. It really felt like Christmas, and it brought us all together like a family.”
The lively atmosphere allowed the cast and crew to bond, play pranks, and create a sense of belonging that translated beautifully onto the screen.
