Official Trailer Drop: Idris Elba and John Cena Go Full-Throttle in Action-Comedy Heads of State
Global Premiere on Prime Video Set for July 2, 2025
Buckle up. The explosive official trailer for Heads of State just dropped, and it’s everything fans of buddy action comedies have been craving — with an international twist. Starring Idris Elba, John Cena, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the film promises big laughs, even bigger action, and the kind of high-octane chaos that only happens when world leaders are forced to save the day.
Watch the official trailer now and mark your calendars. The world might be in danger, but at least it’s in very entertaining hands.
From director Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry, Nobody), Heads of State delivers a globe-trotting spectacle where diplomacy takes a backseat to adrenaline. The story follows UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (Cena), fierce political rivals with a very public disdain for one another. But when a shadowy global threat targets both leaders, they must begrudgingly join forces and go off the grid.
Enter MI6 agent Noel Bisset, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the one woman brilliant (and brave) enough to wrangle the testosterone-fueled duo and help unravel a dangerous conspiracy that threatens the entire free world.
The trailer teases a whirlwind mix of quick-witted banter, massive set pieces, and nostalgic flair straight out of the ’90s golden age of action comedies — think Rush Hour meets Lethal Weapon with a diplomatic twist. From high-speed chases to hand-to-hand combat in unexpected places, Heads of State leans hard into its buddy comedy roots while cranking up the stakes.
This marks a reunion for Elba and Cena, who last shared the screen in The Suicide Squad. This time, though, they’re on the same team — sort of. Whether they’re crashing through embassies or exchanging verbal jabs mid-fight, their chemistry is front and center.
Backed by an all-star ensemble — Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle, and Paddy Considine — the film balances explosive action with razor-sharp comedy. Behind the scenes, the screenplay comes from Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query, with a story by Query and production from Peter Safran and John Rickard. Cena and Elba also serve as executive producers.
With a premiere date locked in for July 2, 2025, Heads of State looks poised to be Prime Video’s biggest summer adrenaline rush — and maybe the most fun you’ll have watching two world leaders try not to kill each other.
