He’s hip-hop’s upcoming superstar. Rap music’s positive side is being restored by Master Yeti.
Rap has led the way in the music entertainment industry for a decade. Even though rap is today’s most influential music, it has also been sending out many negative messages that have given the black community a bad rap. Master Yeti is on a mission to change that and bring back the positive in rap through his music. He sends positive vibes to the world in his single Living Life’.
Peebles: Master Yeti I’m not a big fan of rap due to the negative message it sends. But after listening to Livin Life, you changed my mind about rap. I love the music, the melody, and the beat. I think it’s a nice song. How did you come up with the song?
Yeti: I want to reach out, not just to the younger generation, which focuses on one type of rap that has turned so many people off because of its negativity. I wanted to do something that brought life back into the music aspect, which is why I came up with Livin Life. It’s about being happy and not allowing anyone to take that from you. Moving fast and not allowing anyone to stop what you have going on
Peebles: I also think rap music is very powerful, and you must be a very talented person to be able to put it into music. I’m glad you’re putting the positive back into rap. I think it’s beautiful, but some people have taken it out of context. You grew up on the south side of Chicago; how was that?
Yeti: It wasn’t too bad, but I’m from what they call the hood, so I’ve seen everything they talk about on the news today. The stuff they are doing today is not new. It’s just been given the public eye, and now everyone can see it due to social media. The influence of social media wasn’t as strong as it is today. More is being said and done with more feelings that people don’t care about because everything is about showbiz and people getting famous, whether it’s good or bad. A lot of stuff you may not get famous for and a lot of stuff you may get caught up in I thought about what I could do to survive, and that’s when I turned to art. It was my safe place. I use art to turn it around, wanting to get out of the hood.
Peebles: Master Yeti I understand you play by ear. I see you as gifted. There’s a difference between being talented and gifted. Talent is something you can be taught. But giftedness is something you’re born with. What are you working on now?
Yeti: Right now, I’m working on a seven-song EP that will drop over the summer, but right now we’re going to flood it with a few singles and shorts to go along with the singles that are going to look like movies. I really want to tap into different parts of people’s minds versus just listening to the song. I’m also working on doing more shows in Chicago. I’m constantly working on building the brand, never stopping the creativity. I want to flood people with so much content before the end of the summer.
Peebles: Master Yeti, what would you tell someone who wants to get into the rap entertainment business?
The first thing I would tell them is to never copy another artist; be yourself and be different. Because the first thing people want to do is pick up a pen and start rapping because a trend has come out. There are already a lot of clones out there, and you’ll get thrown back into the box of crayons with all the other colors. Always try to stand out and do your own thing. One last thing: always stay consistent.
