ABOUT A SNOWY DAY IN OAKLAND
A Snowy Day in Oakland is a film directed by Kim Bass and is centered around Latrice Monroe, a therapist (Nicole Ari Parker) who decides to end a stalled romance with her longtime, high-profile, psychiatrist, boyfriend/business partner. She moves into a predominately African-American and psychologically ignored neighborhood and navigates her practice, her relationships and her sanity with the town’s biggest personalities Davis (Deon Cole) Jeanette (Loretta Devine), and Theona (Kimberly Elise). Her private practice is located in a vacant, street-front office space in the middle of a small, commercial block located across the bay in Oakland. A Snowy Day in Oakland explores meaningful themes including navigating relationships and family, Entrepreneurship, as well as the importance of exploring mental health issues within the black community.

PoC recently set a co-production and co-financing venture with major Japanese talent agency Yoshimoto Kogyo Co. Ltd that sees the two companies producing their first film together – the zombie mockumentary “Among The Dead” – a found footage zombie movie written by esteemed comic book creator, film producer, and screenwriter Andrew Cosby (“Hellboy,” “2 Guns” “Eureka”), who also serves as PoC’s Chief Creative Officer.
PoC also has a joint venture with management and production company Atomik Content to co-manage talent and develop, produce and distribute feature films, TV series and hybrid projects with a focus on elevated action films. The first talent signed through the joint venture was MMA legend and Founder & President of the popular Professional Fighters League (PFL), Ray Sefo who will work with other MMA fighters and Hollywood talent to create and develop ensemble and elevated action-thrillers in the sub-$15million budget range.
PoC’s current slate is rounded out with TOKYO UNDER NIGHT, a film written by Academy Award® winner Ron Bass (RAIN MAN), a “Japanese Casablanca” featuring an historically important Japanese supper club in the 50s and 60s; YASUKE: SOUL OF A SAMURAI, a Kim Bass film that tells the true story of an enslaved African man in late 1500s Feudal Japan whose quest for freedom thrusts him to the forefront of ancient Japanese society as a Samurai warrior who fights to reunify a country rife with despots and warring clans; and the 3D family animated feature SKY & LUNA – a collaboration between PoC, Man of Action Entertainment (“Ben 10” and “Big Hero 6”), Creation Station, and Composition Media; and the TV series NINJA MASX, a futuristic genre-bending mashup of ninja lore, apocalyptic genre, music, dance and dynamic anime action, produced alongside Ryoichi Wada.
On the releasing front, PoC acquired North American distribution rights to Kim Bass’s comedy A Snowy Day in Oakland, and will release the film in theaters nationwide in March.
