Behind the Magic: Aubrey Plaza, Kathryn Hahn, and Joe Locke on Bringing “Agatha All Along” to Life

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has cast another spell with its latest series, Agatha All Along. Now three episodes in, the show has already captivated audiences, offering a mesmerizing dive into the mysterious world of Agatha Harkness. Featuring an enchanting ensemble of talented actors, the series has proven to be a riveting extension of WandaVision. In recent interviews, Aubrey Plaza, Kathryn Hahn, and Joe Locke shared their experiences on set, providing insights into the magic and camaraderie that shaped the production.

Aubrey Plaza: Channeling Unpredictability

For Aubrey Plaza, joining the world of Agatha All Along has allowed her to embrace an entirely new kind of character—one that defies easy categorization. In earlier interviews, Plaza teased that her role involved a shape-shifting quality, making it a thrilling challenge for her as an actor. “You kind of never know what version you’re going to get,” she said, reflecting on the unpredictability that her character brings to the series. This element of transformation, combined with the show’s richly textured storytelling, has kept audiences guessing at every turn.

Plaza also shared her admiration for the show’s practical elements, such as the elaborate sets and special effects, which added depth to her experience. She particularly highlighted the “witch’s road” set, describing it as “incredible” and reminiscent of the classic aesthetic seen in The Wizard of Oz. The tangible, immersive environments helped ground her performance, making her feel as if she had stepped into a timeless cinematic adventure.

Beyond the technical details, Plaza spoke warmly about the camaraderie on set. “It’s rare to have such a big ensemble and have everyone show up egoless and ready to play and laugh,” she said, emphasizing the unique bond that developed among the cast members. This atmosphere of generosity and mutual support made the experience both creatively fulfilling and personally rewarding.

Kathryn Hahn: Rediscovering Agatha Harkness

For Kathryn Hahn, returning as Agatha Harkness has been a thrilling opportunity to explore new depths of the beloved character. “I was flabbergasted. I really was in shock,” she admitted, describing her reaction to being approached for the show. In Agatha All Along, fans are seeing more of Agatha’s complexity, moving beyond her previously shown dark and defensive side to reveal surprising layers, including protective and maternal instincts.

Hahn’s enthusiasm for her character has been palpable, as is her appreciation for the creative team’s commitment to practical sets. Drawing comparisons to her initial experience on WandaVision, she praised the minimal reliance on green screens and CGI, which lent the show a more grounded, authentic feel. “This world… it felt the same. Like, there was not a lot of green screen, not a blue screen,” she noted. This dedication to practical effects has allowed Hahn to fully inhabit Agatha’s world, making her performance all the more immersive.

Joe Locke: Balancing Darkness and Light

Newcomer Joe Locke has shared his excitement about joining the Marvel universe, describing it as a surreal moment. Playing the mysterious and multi-layered character, Tina, Locke’s role brings an interesting duality to the show. “Tina balances a dark side with an upbeat teenage energy,” he explained, making the character an intriguing addition to the series. Locke’s enthusiasm for the role and the support from his fellow cast members have helped him navigate the demands of the Marvel universe with confidence and flair.

Like Hahn, Locke emphasized the transformative impact of the practical sets, describing one of them—the “witch’s rosette”—as “the size of a football field.” The immersive, intricately detailed environments not only enhanced the actors’ performances but also contributed to the magical atmosphere that has captivated audiences so far.

A Bond Beyond the Screen

One theme resonated clearly across all the interviews: the strong bonds formed among the cast members. Plaza, Hahn, and Locke have each expressed deep appreciation for the collaborative spirit and sense of community on set. Hahn likened the experience to navigating a labyrinth, with each twist and turn presenting new challenges and rewards. “The trials are always there. You have to get past one wrong to get to the next,” she mused. Locke agreed, adding that this journey was filled with both danger and delight, much like the twisting pathways of a maze.

“It’s rare to work on a project with such a big ensemble and feel like you’re part of a real family,” Plaza added, underscoring the unique dynamic that has made the show so special. Locke echoed these sentiments, saying, “We’ve formed a coven. We’ve formed a bond between us all that I think will last for a very, very, very long time.”

The Magic Continues

With Agatha All Along already enchanting audiences three episodes in, fans are eager to see what other surprises lie in wait. Aubrey Plaza’s unpredictable character, Kathryn Hahn’s complex Agatha, and Joe Locke’s enigmatic Tina are making this series a compelling addition to the Marvel universe. As the story continues to unfold, the dedication and passion of its cast shine through, promising even more spellbinding adventures in the episodes to come.
