BET+ and Hartbeat, the global entertainment powerhouse founded by Kevin Hart, are teaming up for the streaming platform’s first-ever original adult animated series, Lil Kev. Created by and inspired by the life of actor, comedian, and executive producer Kevin Hart, the highly anticipated series is set to debut in Spring 2025.

A Hilarious Look at Kevin Hart’s Roots

Drawing from Hart’s childhood and his comedic perspective, Lil Kev takes a bold, satirical, and unfiltered approach to real-life experiences. The half-hour series is set in 1993 North Philadelphia, following 12-year-old Kevin as he navigates the challenges of growing up with his trademark humor, hustle, and heart.

The story centers on Lil Kev’s unshakable optimism and wild imagination as they clash with the realities of his tough neighborhood. At the heart of the series is Nancy, Kev’s hardworking and no-nonsense mother, voiced by comedy legend Wanda Sykes. Alongside her is Deon Cole as Uncle Richard Jr., Kev’s ripped, ex-con uncle whose hustling antics provide plenty of laughs—and questionable advice. Additional casting will be announced soon.

Behind the Scenes

Kevin Hart leads a powerhouse production team, executive producing alongside Bryan Smiley, Jeff Clanagan, Mike Stein, and Candice Wilson Cherry for Hartbeat. Tiffany Brown serves as co-executive producer, with Matthew Claybrooks and Michael Price acting as showrunners and EPs. ShadowMachine, led by Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, is handling animation, with Hartbeat funding development and production. BET+ executives Jason Harvey and Rose Catherine Pinkney will also serve as executive producers.
