BET+ Brings Back Varnell Hill in New Workplace Comedy Starring Tommy Davidson — Yes, You Heard That Right!
“Did you miss me?” Well, he’s baaaack!
BET+ just hit the nostalgia jackpot, officially greenlighting VARNELL HILL, a fresh workplace comedy series based on the over-the-top, always extra character made famous by Tommy Davidson on the classic ’90s sitcom Martin.
This isn’t just a cameo or throwback clip show—this is a straight-to-series order. Davidson is suiting back up as the hilariously self-absorbed Varnell Hill, and this time, he’s front and center. And yes, Martin Lawrence is involved too—he’s co-creating the series and executive producing.
Set behind the scenes of a fictional late-night talk show, The Varnell Hill Show, the series dives into the chaos of TV production, industry egos, and Varnell’s not-so-smooth attempt to stay relevant in a media world that’s left him behind (or so he thinks). Expect a mix of sharp satire, celeb cameos, cutaways, and plenty of fourth-wall breaking.

Tommy Davidson is hyped. “Did you miss me? Well, now you don’t have to!” he said. “I’m excited and honored to be a part of such a creative project with the brilliant mind of Martin Lawrence, over 30 years in the making. Fans have requested it and now it’s coming to BET+!”
Alongside Davidson and Lawrence, the project is stacked with heavy hitters. Bentley Kyle Evans (co-creator, writer, and director) will serve as showrunner and exec producer. Other exec producers include Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Andy Horne, Stacy Lyles, Robert Lawrence, and Rae Proctor, with Rose Catherine Pinkney and Jason Harvey repping BET+ at the helm.
Production dates and a premiere window are still under wraps, but if you were a fan of Martin, or just need more off-the-wall comedy in your life, this is one to watch.
Get ready—Varnell Hill is back, baby!
