BET+ Renews Hit Comedy Churchy for Season 2, Starring KevOnStage in Hilarious Southern Church Adventure
BET+ has announced the renewal of its original comedy series Churchy for a second season following its successful debut earlier this year. Starring comedian Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks as Corey Carr Jr., Churchy became the platform’s #1 scripted comedy during its launch week in February 2024. The workplace comedy takes audiences into the world of small-town church life, where the ambitious yet naive Corey Carr Jr. sets out to establish his own ministry in Lubbock, Texas, after being overlooked for leadership of his father’s mega-church. Through a mix of humor and heart, Corey quickly discovers that small-town ministry is filled with unique challenges—and plenty of laughs.
Fredericks, who is also an executive producer on the series alongside Melissa Fredericks for KevOnStage Studios, expressed his gratitude for the show’s success and ongoing support: “A heartfelt thank you to BET for their unwavering support, SpringHill for their amazing partnership, and to our incredible audience for tuning in and making this journey possible. The cast and I can’t wait to bring you even more comedy and a bigger, better show.”
Produced in partnership with SpringHill, the series brings a fresh and comedic perspective on faith and community, blending humor with life lessons. Season one introduced a cast that includes Anthony Elfoniza, Lexi Allen, London Solomon, Mark J.P. Hood, and Shani Shockley. Season two will welcome series regulars Quin Walters and Tahir Moore, with exciting guest appearances from Nic Few, Tony Baker, and Tabitha Brown.
BET+ Head of Programming Jason Harvey celebrated the renewal, sharing, “We congratulate the amazing writers, cast, crew, and our production partners for creating such an entertaining first season. Churchy blends humor and heart, resonating tremendously with viewers. We’re excited to see where the second season will take us.”
The series is executive produced by Kevin and Melissa Fredericks, with LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Lezlie Wills also producing for SpringHill. Season two’s episodes will be penned by comedy writers Richard A. Washington and David Murphy, who are expected to bring new storylines that expand on the charm and quirks of Corey’s journey.
For those who missed it, the first season of Churchy is available to stream on BET+, and beginning November 5, episodes will air weekly on BET’s cable channel at 6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET. Fans can look forward to even more laughs and heartfelt moments in season two as Corey Carr Jr. continues his hilarious path through the world of small-town ministry.
