Chicago at the Pantages will Razzle Dazzle Audiences

The current production of the classic Chicago musical at the Pantages is full of showstopping dance numbers, a classic score and strong performances. With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history.

Set in Chicago during the jazzy 1920’s, the musical tells the story of two vaudevillian murderers who are both locked up in the Cook County Jail. Velma (Kailin Brown) is serving time for the murder of both her husband and sister, after finding them together in bed, and Roxie (Katie Frieden) is in jail for killing her lover. Both actresses give wonderful performances and Brown’s dance numbers steal the show.

Mama Morton (Illeanna Kirven), for a fee, helps both aspiring starlets get in touch with dapper lawyer Billy Flynn (Connor Sullivan) who plays the media to ensure positive coverage of the crimes and innocent verdicts. J. Terrell as Mary Sunshine provides an ovation worthy rendition of “A Little Bit of Good.”

The band takes up most of the Pantages stage leaving a very miniscule set design and scenery. Everyone is decked out in scantily clad black which delivers a strong presence during the big dancing and singing numbers. Our audience gave standing ovations during the show to “All That Jazz,” “When You’re Good to Mama,””Mister Cellophane,” “Razzle Dazzle” and the big finale.

It’s worth a trip to Hollywood to witness the electrifying dance numbers and catchy songs by a very strong cast. Playing now through March 24, tickets at https://www.broadwayinhollywood.com.
