First Look: Joker: Folie À Deux – Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga Unite in Todd Phillips’ Dark Musical Sequel
The wait is over. First-look images from Todd Phillips’ highly anticipated Joker: Folie À Deux have just been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of the critically acclaimed and box office-shattering Joker saga. Following the monumental success of 2019’s Joker, which grossed over $1 billion and redefined the comic book genre, Phillips returns with Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix reprising his haunting role as Arthur Fleck, alongside Lady Gaga, stepping into her first DC universe role.
Set against the eerie backdrop of Arkham Asylum, Folie À Deux sees Arthur institutionalized, grappling with his dual identity, and discovering love and the music that lies within him. These first-look images hint at a darker, more musical dimension to his chaotic journey.
Joining Phoenix and Gaga are Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Get Out), with Zazie Beetz returning to reprise her role.
Behind the camera, Phillips reunites with his award-winning Joker team, including Oscar-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir and cinematographer Lawrence Sher, while costume designer Arianne Phillips (Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood) joins the lineup for this next chapter. Lady Gaga also serves as a music consultant, teasing a unique sonic layer to this follow-up.
Joker: Folie À Deux arrives exclusively in theaters on October 4, 2024, with an international release beginning October 2, 2024.
