First Look: Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne Are Back in Apple TV+’s Platonic — And Their Friendship Is As Messy As Ever
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are returning to our screens this summer—and so are all the awkward hugs, brutally honest conversations, and chaotic heart-to-hearts that come with their friendship in Platonic. Apple TV+ just dropped a first look at the upcoming second season of the hit half-hour comedy, and from the looks of it, the duo isn’t holding back.

The 10-episode second season officially kicks off on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with a two-episode premiere. New episodes will roll out every Wednesday through October 1, so if you’re the type who lives for weekly cringe-laughs and emotional realism, mark your calendar now.
Co-created, co-written, and directed by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Platonic has always nailed the balance of ridiculous and real. Season 2 picks up with Rogen and Byrne’s characters still locked in one of TV’s most refreshingly dysfunctional best-friendships. Only now? They’re older, still confused, and now navigating work stress, relationship drama, and wedding chaos (yep, weddings). And while they may be each other’s emotional life rafts, they’re also just as likely to tip the boat.
Also returning are Platonic favorites Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, with a hilarious new lineup of guest stars joining the fray—including Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett. If that cast doesn’t scream comedic gold, we don’t know what does.

Behind the scenes, the series continues to be powered by a stellar production team. Rogen and Byrne serve as executive producers alongside Stoller, Delbanco, and Conor Welch, with Rogen’s longtime collaborators Evan Goldberg and James Weaver also on board via Point Grey Pictures. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television under Stoller’s overall deal with the studio.
If you’re a fan of Rogen’s signature blend of humor and heart, you’ll want to keep an eye out for his other Apple TV+ project, The Studio, which he also co-wrote and directed. And if you’re wondering where else to catch Byrne, don’t sleep on her intense, pitch-black performance in Physical.

Season 2 of Platonic looks like it’s doubling down on everything that made the first season so endearing: messy emotional support, total lack of boundaries, and a whole lot of laughs. Because sometimes, your ride-or-die best friend is also the person most likely to accidentally ruin your life… and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
