He’s one of the funniest men on planet earth, the one and only Lavell Crawford!
Lavell Crawford is a Grammy Nominated and SAG award-winning comedian. He’s also an actor known for movies like Breaking Bad (2011-2013) Meet the Blacks (2016), Better Call Saul TV series (2017-2022), and many more. He has his own Podcast. This funny man has a sense of humor that can’t be duplicated or imitated. I had the pleasure of talking to him and he made me laugh throughout the entire interview.
Lavell was inspired to become a comedian by watching comedians like Richard Pryor, Steve Harvey, and others. He decided that’s what he wanted to do “people can say they want to be a lot of things but until they do something about it all it will be is talk. I decided I wanted to be a comedian and I started performing in comedy clubs in my area.” Lavell started doing stand-up comedy in 1990 and has been going strong ever since.
Lavell has had his share of ups and downs in the business but credits his success to God and his beautiful wife Deshawn of fourteen years. “Being married is a beautiful thing if you are patient and wait on the Lord, He will bring the right person into your life. I met my wife in Georgia at the Bronner Brothers Beauty Convention. After I finished performing, they told me I had about two hundred people that were waiting outside to take pictures with me and she was one of them. So, I sort of started flirting with her. We went on our first date on Valentine’s Day, and we also got married on Valentine’s Day and the rest is history.”
Lavell has also undergone a great transformation with his weight loss of 180 pounds putting a new lease on life. “I was experiencing some health issues. I had diabetes and I knew I needed to do something, but I was afraid of having the surgery because I knew someone who had died from it. But my sister also had it done and looked great. So, she encouraged me to have it done. I figured if a doctor could change a man into a woman surely, they could do gastric bypass surgery on me.”
Lavell has a full schedule ahead of him this year he will be touring with Sommore who’s a female comedian, Bruce Bruce, and other well-known comedians. He has a Cartoon on Tubi and, he also will be returning for his fourth Showtime comedy special THEE LAVELL CRAWFORD, starting Friday, February 24 on streaming and on demand for Showtime subscribers. Following that on February 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT in the stand-up special filmed at the Joy Theater in New Orleans, he will have you in stitches as he talks about getting older, paying his first HOA fees, and other issues of life. Be sure to tune in and get your laugh on.
