Jaidyn Triplett: A Singer-Songwriter with a Passion for Music
Jaidyn Triplett, a singer-songwriter, was inspired by her dad’s music from a young age and expressed her love for songwriting and singing. She wants to continue releasing positive messages behind each song and find a balance between being age-appropriate and musically ahead of the curve. Her hit singles include BOPSTAR, TORNADO, and ENOUGH. Her debut EP includes her new song GONE WITH THE WIND, which perfectly fits her style and range. She uses her platform to raise awareness about mental health advocacy and encourages people to love themselves and be confident in their own skin, body, and hair. Jaidyn’s next album, which will be released this year, will feature new songs in various genres and will be produced by her father. She also plans to explore new music and film projects in London and New York. Her goal is to stay on top of her game musically in this year.
Cox: As a singer, I’m curious about your source of inspiration.
Jaidyn: My dad began creating music from a young age and I was always around it growing up. He would always take me to the studio with him and I would soak everything in. Once I discovered my love for songwriting and singing, I expressed that to him, and he made it happen when the time was right!
Cox: What motivates you to make music?
Jaidyn: I want there to be a positive message behind each song. I want to continue releasing songs like ENOUGH and GONE WITH THE WIND. They are catchy, fun, and also have a positive message. The goal for our team is always finding a healthy balance of being age appropriate and yet being ahead of the curve musically.
Cox: Let’s discuss the hit singles on your new EP – BOPSTAR, TORNADO & ENOUGH.
Jaidyn: BOPSTAR was my first single to ever release. It was also the first song I recorded in the studio. I was so nervous. It was also hard to sing because it’s more about swag and less about sounding pretty. It is a vibes song for all of my fans that has no boundaries. And it’s super catchy! People listen the first time and just already know the song. TORNADO was next and it was probably the most fun music video to film. I got to invite a lot of friends to my house and we all just had a good time. Tornado was just about being a teenager and wanting to be responsible for your parents, while also wanting to have fun. Fun fact: My dad wrote this song when I was about 4 years old for a teenage pop group and it didn’t get placed. So it worked out for me at the perfect time. ENOUGH released and this one meant a lot because I wanted all my songs to have meaning. This song in particular was about mental health and that’s a topic I love to speak about and educate people my age about. This is one of the songs that I had the most influence in the writing room.
Cox: Jaidyn, BOPSTAR, your debut EP, was just released. Please tell me more about the music, your creative process, and who it is intended for.
Jaidyn: Included in the EP was my brand new song GONE WITH THE WIND. Vocally I really enjoy singing that song because it perfectly fits my style and range, while still making me go out of the comfort zone a little to stretch me a bit as an artist. When I first recorded these 4 songs we all knew it was going to be an EP. All the songs are different so I knew it was going to be a party in your ears for sure. This was another song that my dad wrote back when I was 4 years old and didn’t get placed. I’m glad they were still available because I love these songs for me.
Cox: You enjoy using your songs and platform to raise awareness about mental health advocacy. Why is it vital for you to discuss mental health as an artist?
Jaidyn: Mental health has always been something I enjoy speaking about. It’s a topic I want to bring more awareness to. I believe the most important thing to do before you love someone else is to first love yourself. Be confident in your own skin, love your body, love your hair, and know that you will always be Enough. That’s my daily mantra and I recommend people use it as well in their daily affirmations. Young kid and teen mental health is something that is always taken at full face value. Kids have a lot to deal with so mentors, journaling, positive affirmations, inspiration, passion projects are all great ways to stay on your A game.
Cox: What else can we expect from you musically in 2024 now that your first EP is out?
Jaidyn: I am traveling to London at the top of next year to finish my album. I will be working with Sean Hamilton and my dad to create some amazing new songs that will round out the album. I’m looking forward to exploring more genres and finding my sound. I also have a feature film that is scheduled to release sometime next year called Hauntology. Very excited about that one.
Cox: You just completed production on a project called “Hauntology.” Could you please tell me more about it?
Jaidyn: Yes! We just wrapped on Hauntology back in June of 2023. It’s a horror film and I play one of the lead roles! Most roles I have played in my career have been mostly upbeat, funny, and fast paced. This is more of a serious role. My dad did a wonderful job coaching me that way I could really connect to the character and give the best performance possible. I did my own stunts too. So much fun!
Cox: What kind of character are you? Please tell me more about them.
Jaidyn: I play the lead role as Venus Price. The story is about Venus and her older sister who takes her on a road trip filled with horror spooky stories after she catches Venus trying to run away. Venus is discovering self identity and trying to figure out who she is – like all teenagers. I know that a lot of people my age will relate to the character, and I can’t for everyone to watch.
Cox: You are an Afro-Latina with pride. I’d like to know how those roots manifest themselves in your work.
Jaidyn: Hair care is something that has been a long journey between me and my mom. My mom has thick and wavy hair but it’s completely a different curl pattern and texture than mine, so it was a mission to constantly learn my hair as it changed. I just recently learned how to successfully detangle, wash, and properly condition. Hair is something that I love to showcase on TV because it is a part of me and how I express my culture. I hope that girls that have hair like me can learn that straight hair isn’t the only hair that’s acceptable. That you can learn how to properly manage your hair and it is very beautiful as well! All types of hair are gorgeous and you should never feel otherwise.
Cox: I know you’re a skincare junkie. What are your favorite skincare regimens?
Jaidyn: As a teenager, occasional raging acne comes with the territory. Normally if that happens, I’ll end the night by double cleansing with a cleansing balm (if I’m wearing makeup), Pan Oxyl acne wash, then applying my skin care that includes hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary, a vitamin C serum, and lastly a gentle moisturizer from Cetaphil. The Ordinary is one of my favorite skin care brands right now for their simple ingredients.
Cox: You, too, are entering the entrepreneur era. I’ve heard you’re known for your one-of-a-kind cheesecakes and other gourmet treats. Tell me about your entrepreneurial and culinary interests.
Jaidyn: It all began in the middle of the pandemic during quarantine. Just baking cookies or cakes from the box every once in a while. Then I came across a cheesecake recipe and I made it my own. Adding my own ingredients and really molding the flavors how I thought was fitting. I began selling them to family and friends 2 years ago and it has been an amazing journey. So many people have been supporting me and rooting me on. It truly is one of my passions, and baking is something I want to go to college for. Right now I only sell to friends and family but I hope one day I can expand further.
