MGM+ ORDERS DRAMA SERIES ROBIN HOODBASED ON THE CLASSIC ADVENTURE TALE

  • September 24, 2024

MGM+ has announced a bold new drama series, Robin Hood, offering a fresh take on the legendary outlaw hero. Produced by Lionsgate Television and led by showrunner John Glenn alongside producer/director Jonathan English (Librarians: The Next Chapter), this reimagined version blends romance, historical authenticity, and thrilling adventure, while spotlighting the relationship between Robin and the fearless Marian. The ten-episode series will begin filming in Serbia this February, with a debut set for later next year.

This modern retelling brings a dynamic energy to the age-old story of Robin Hood, the Saxon forester’s son who rises as a leader of rebel outlaws. The show dives deep into his romance with Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord, as they unite to fight royal corruption and bring justice to England in the wake of the Norman invasion. MGM+ promises a series that not only delivers exhilarating action but also explores the psychological complexities of these iconic characters.

“MGM+ is where movie lovers come for cinematic storytelling, and Robin Hood embodies that vision,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “This new take on the classic is smart, sweeping, and filled with the adventure and romance audiences crave, while also bringing depth and historical context to the timeless tale.”

Lionsgate’s SVP of scripted television development, Jocelyn Sabo, added, “John and Jonathan’s vision brings scale and emotional resonance to Robin Hood, making it as exciting as it is heartfelt. We’re thrilled to partner with MGM+ to bring this story to a new generation.”

Todd Lieberman, producer for Hidden Pictures, emphasized the show’s balance of thrilling action and human storytelling, while English and Glenn expressed their excitement about reviving a story that has captivated audiences for generations.

Robin Hood will premiere on MGM+ in the U.S. and will also be available to viewers in the U.K., Italy, Germany, Spain, and across Latin America, as well as several other territories. For fans of epic adventure and romance, this reimagining of Robin Hood promises to be a must-watch event.
