Must-Watch Comedy Remake: Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead – Available November 19

  • Michael Cox
  • November 12, 2024

If you’re gearing up for holiday viewing or looking to add a fresh comedy classic to your digital library, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is a must-watch. This new spin on the 1991 cult favorite, releasing on November 19 across major digital platforms, is an energetic update featuring an all-star cast, including Simone Joy Jones (Bel-Air), Ms. Pat (The Ms. Pat Show), Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America), and Nicole Richie.

Directed by Wade Allain-Marcus and written by Chuck Hayward (Ted Lasso, WandaVision), this remake retains the charm and comedic timing of the original while reimagining the storyline with a modern twist and a multigenerational, diverse cast. Fans of the original will find nostalgia with a fresh flair, while new audiences will appreciate the rapid-fire humor and endearing chaos that ensues when 17-year-old Tanya (Simone Joy Jones) takes on the role of adult in the family after the sudden passing of their babysitter.

This remake brings a fresh perspective: Tanya’s plans for a carefree summer are dashed when her mom leaves for a retreat, and an “insufferable” babysitter arrives to oversee her and her siblings. When the babysitter unexpectedly dies, Tanya has to manage not only her siblings’ quirks but also a new job under the stylish and driven Rose (Nicole Richie). Amid sibling antics, a budding romance, and workplace challenges, Tanya’s summer becomes a hilarious, heartfelt journey into adulthood.

With accolades already rolling in from critics like The New York Times’ Amy Nicholson, who calls it “a snappy, gutsy comedy,” and Variety’s Courtney Howard praising Richie’s performance, this film promises the best of laugh-out-loud moments and nostalgic nods.

Be sure to mark your calendar for November 19 to stream or download this comedic gem on platforms like AppleTV, Amazon, GooglePlay, and more. Perfect for fans of the original or anyone looking for a fresh holiday-season laugh!
