NEW SEASON OF HIT GAME SHOW ‘PASSWORD’ RETURNS MARCH 12 AT 10 P.M. ET/PT TO NBC
The legendary game show “Password,” hosted by Jimmy Fallon and Keke Palmer, the recent Emmy Award winner, will return for a new season on Tuesday, March 12 at 10 p.m. on NBC. Each new episode is available the next day Wednesday on Peacock.
Even more famous people have appeared on “Password” season two: Howie Mandel, Joe Manganiello, Joel McHale, Meghan Trainor, Lindsey Vonn, Lauren Graham, Wiz Khalifa, Lauren Graham, Chance the Rapper, Laverne Cox, Nikki & Brie Garcia, Lauren Graham, Jimmy Kimmel, Johnny Knoxville, and Roy Wood Jr.
Palmer, who made history this year at the Emmys by winning Outstanding Host for a Game Show and becoming the first Black woman to do so, rules the stage as competitors from all backgrounds team up with Fallon and other celebrities to compete in the ultimate word game.
The one-hour episodes will feature two consecutive games in which Fallon, a regular player, teams up with a contestant to guess a secret password using only one-word clues in order to compete against a celebrity guest/contestant partnership for cash prizes.
“Password”‘s second season will have fresh series additions along with gameplay aspects from previous iterations of the popular format. This season’s new game, “Shoot the Moon!” can be activated when a competitor first notices the password and feels certain they can use one hint to help a teammate guess it. That competitor can then inform Palmer that they wish to “Shoot the Moon!” Instead of the standard six points, they will receive eight if they can successfully guess the password using just one hint. However, if they make a mistake, their rival will have an opportunity to pilfer.
In place of the program providing clues during tiebreakers, Palmer will exercise her creative freedom and provide clues in her own voice, giving contestants the chance to “perform” the lines until someone responds. Furthermore, each episode’s second round of games now features a unique category or subject that connects to every password in that round.
Another new feature is “Password Prize of the Night,” which picks at random a point in the game when a certain sound will play to indicate that the following password is also worth a fantastic prize.
John Quinn, the showrunner, is joined by Fallon and Jim Juvonen as executive producers.
Fremantle is producing “Password” in collaboration with Electric Hot Dog and Universal Television Alternative Studio. The “Password” format is produced and distributed internationally by Fremantle.
