PRICE: From Humble Beginnings in Music to an Inspiring Mission
During my recent interview with Price, he provided valuable insights into his remarkable journey from a budding musician to a prominent figure in the music industry and a passionate advocate for positive change in his community. Price spoke with sincerity and introspection, sharing his experiences and the valuable lessons he has gained throughout his journey.
Price’s journey started in the Inland Empire (IE) of California, where he was immersed in a wide array of musical influences. These experiences shaped his creative process and ignited his love for using music as a medium for storytelling. He developed a deep passion for music from a young age, finding inspiration in the works of artists such as OutKast, E-40, and Nas, as well as rock icons like Jay-Z and Eminem.
It seems that in the current state of hip-hop, one can easily enter this realm and achieve success. “It’s diluting the experience and process,” Price stated. According to him, this phenomenon has been observed over the years due to the misleading nature of social media in assessing talent. While a song’s catchiness and popularity in viral dances or challenges may be significant, he stressed that it alone cannot determine an artist’s potential for success. Price remarked, “There seems to be no longer any qualifier or standard.”
As he ventured further into the music industry, Price experienced the ups and downs that accompany the pursuit of a career in music. Reflecting on his experiences, he highlighted the significance of perseverance and resilience, expressing his firm belief that one only truly loses when they give up. He recognized the challenges he encountered, from maneuvering through the industry to conquering personal hurdles, but emphasized the significance of the journey in molding his character and resolve.
Price wants to emphasize the impact that growing up in the Inland Empire has had on his musical development. “Coming from the IE allowed me to witness a wide range of styles, thanks to my proximity to LA,” Price explained. Coming from a region with a troubled history of violence and poverty, his perspective on music lyrics was deeply influenced. He recognized the potential impact on communities and future generations.
Next, we delved into Price’s highly anticipated album, “C.I.T.Y,” and its profound impact on his artistic growth. He conveyed his desire for the album to be a reflection of his spiritual and creative development, striving to create music that exudes a sense of integrity and empowerment. The album showcases his dedication to using his platform to inspire and uplift audiences through his storytelling.
“I purposely infused Saggin and Braggin, and Mansa Musa with a distinct West Coast vibe.” Price shared his reasoning for doing that, pointing out that California is often the target of ridicule for its distinct regional music. He also mentioned that he recognizes that the specific beat texture may lead others to question their quality. However, he provided an example to support his point: in different parts of the country, they have been utilizing the identical sound and beats without facing any mockery. This album and the songs on it beautifully capture the essence of the West Coast. It showcases the artist’s commitment to delivering exceptional sounds and beats.
“Once I got fully clear on what my mission and purpose were in this game, I made it a point to be intentional in everything we do consistently,” Price shared.
Price’s dedication to making a positive impact on his community has been a driving force in his career. He recounted stories of his philanthropic efforts, reminiscing about his mother’s compassionate deeds during his childhood and how they inspired his drive to create a meaningful difference. Price has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to his community, actively engaging in various initiatives such as organizing food and clothing drives and providing support to those in need.
Price’s mission goes beyond his music, as he aims to make a significant impact through outreach and advocacy in the future. His commitment to developing long-lasting solutions and tackling social issues is in line with his ultimate aim of motivating transformation and harmony. He highlighted the significance of utilizing his voice to drive positive change, finding inspiration in influential figures such as Nipsey Hussle, Nas, and Jay-Z.
Price’s journey is a powerful example of the strength found in resilience, purpose, and compassion. The narrative beautifully captures the profound influence of music and the power of artists to champion meaningful transformation. Price’s experiences and unwavering commitment to his community and art have made him a beacon of hope and inspiration. He is ready to continue shaping a brighter future through his music and philanthropic efforts.
