Celebrity Stylist and Fashion Influencer Shaquille Palmer styles some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry
Shaquille Palmer, also known as Shaq, is originally from Philadelphia but currently splits his time between Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. He began his journey in the fashion industry during high school, where he designed costumes for the Theater Department at his school. After that, Shaquille attended Miami International University of Art and Design, where he earned his associate degree. He pursued a successful career as a stylist, working with renowned individuals in the entertainment industry such as Serena Williams, Trina, Nicki Minaj, and numerous others. Shaquille is consistently making history, and I had the privilege of speaking with him about how he is living his dream.
Peebles: Shaquille, what inspired you to enter the world of fashion?
Shaquille: Fashion was something I always had a passion for; it was one of the things that was in my blood. So, in 2013, I moved to Miami and was working for Coconut Water Company. I was like, I can’t do this anymore. What else is there for me to do to get to my career? I just had to start styling for free because it would take me to where I needed to be in time, so I reached out to Trina, a rapper, and from there, my career took off.
Peebles: You have done a lot at your young age and have been a stylist to a lot of high-profile people. How do you feel about that?
Shaquille: Well, it hasn’t hit me. It’s still new to me. I don’t feel like I’ve reached the level where I can say, “Wow, I did this. I have done a lot of this, but I don’t think I’ve given myself enough credit.
Peebles: Shaquille, you have a great reputation as a stylish person. What do you love most about what you do?
Shaquille: What I love most is that I get to do what I love to do. I love sharing my gift with other people. In the next 5 years, I won’t be styling but will have my own styling agency, hopefully where I can bring in other up-and-coming stylists. I would really love to have that and be fully settled and known internationally.
Peebles: Shaquille I know you love what you do, but on the flip side, what do you find most challenging about what you do, and how do you handle that?
Shaquille: I’m dealing with so many different personalities, and I just handle it; I don’t let it handle me.
Peebles: What were some of your most memorable moments with someone you styled?
Shaquille: You know, I’m always so into my work that I’ve never really sat down to say this is a memorable moment. I have definitely had some; I just can’t say which ones at the moment.
Peebles: Do you style regular people or just celebrities?
Shaquille: I style regular people with money, the ones that can afford me. (He laughs)
Peebles: What would you tell other people who want to get into the business of being a stylist?
Shaquille: I would tell them to be persistent; that’s one of the main things about me. I’m very persistent. There’s nothing I wanted, and I was told no, so I just let it go. Also, being true to yourself and not giving up on what it is that you want Live your dream.
